Multi-touch support on desktop touch-monitors (win7)
« on: 31 July, 2012, 07:44:58 PM »
Even though Unity claims to support multi-touch monitors for desktop platforms (Win7), it is not really the case. As of Unity 3.5, it actually only supports a single finger touching the screen, emulated as a mouse cursor!

The implications for FingerGestures are:
- single finger gestures will work fine
- multi-finger gestures will not work correctly out-of-the-box

You can however get multitouch support via external libraries, such as uniTUOI), and extend FingerGestures to make use of them as well. Dave Buchhofer wrote a great blog entry on this topic.

I'm planning on providing support for multi-touch monitors in one of the next updates, unless a new Unity version offering proper multitouch support for desktop monitors  ships before then :)

Do you have any idea when you might implement multitouch on Windows 7?  I would LOVE to be able to use FingerGestures without all sorts of 3rd party addons (especially since I've never been able to get any of these TUIO "hacks" to work correctly, let alone with FingerGestures).

Keep up the great work.

I can't give a definite date right now, as I'm still working towards wrapping up the v3.0 update which is going to be one of my biggest release so far. However, adding support for desktop touch functionality is very high on my priority list so I will be working on it as soon as 3.0 is out of the doors.

TUIO support is planning for next release.

I mean native Windows support through the Windows API

Ooh, is this still upcoming or has it been dropped?
